Mum under fire over four-year-old's packed lunch that parents believe is unsuitable

A mum has been criticised online for sending her four-year-old daughter to school with boiled eggs in her lunchbox.

The parent also included some fresh fruit, a cereal bar, some sweet treats and sandwiches for her child, according to the Daily Star.

Some concerned parents, however, have said the packed lunch is 'unsuitable' as it could potentially put other children at risk.

Egg and dairy allergies are very common, with parents online worrying that the product may cause a classmate to have a reaction.

One commented saying: “My daughter is allergic to eggs.”

And another commented: “One of my daughter’s friends was allergic to so much that even if someone touched a nut or egg and touched her she would come out in welts.”

The mum defended herself after the criticism.

She reassured that she had checked with the class before sending her daughter in with boiled eggs.

The Australian woman said: “They have implied I don’t care about allergies which isn’t the case.

“My daughter also loves almonds but I don’t send those of pranut butter sandwiches because of the allergy risk.

“There isn’t an egg issue in my daughter’s kinder. If there was a serious issue I would never put a child’s life at risk.”

So what should you be packing in your child’s lunchbox?

Last year, a dietitian spoke to the Daily Star about the best foods to prep for kids' mid-day meals.

Roxane Bakker recommends plenty of fruit and vegetables, calcium-rich products and complex carbohydrates to keep kids feeling full of energy all day long.

These include yoghurt pots, veggie sticks and wholemeal sandwiches.

Meanwhile, she advises mums and dads not to pack foods that are high in fat or sugar.
