Mum trolled after admitting she is struggling with 'prison' home under lockdown

A mum has been trolled after comparing her home under lockdown to 'prison'.

The mum said she was feeling 'claustrophobic' after strict new lockdown rules forbid people leaving their home or garden unless for essential purposes.

Posting to the Mumsnet forum, she said: "Can’t believe we are now living in a world where you need a ‘reasonable excuse’ to leave your house

"I do understand why but I still can’t quite believe it.

"I feel extremely claustrophobic, the house is now a prison - and this could go on another six months.

"I now need a ‘reasonable excuse’ to step outside my front door. I don’t have one so that is it. We are locked up.

"All that freedom we took for granted seems like a different lifetime."

However the woman's complaints were met with less sympathy than she might have hoped with people saying lockdown isn't that bad.

One said: "The list of reasonable excuses is pretty long though. And you can leave to exercise. So you're not really locked up."

Another said: "The list of reasonable excuses is as long as your arm. You aren't literally locked in your house by any means."

Another added: The purpose of the restrictions is to save lives.

"That is far more important than being able to leave home multiple times per day for totally non essential reasons.

"Personally I don’t think this ‘lockdown’ is strict enough. It should be a case of- unless you are a key worker, stay the f*** at home.

"Not going out for walks or popping to the shop for alcohol."

"It's hardly the first time in our history their have been restrictions on our personal freedoms. And you are not locked in," added another.

However not everyone responded so harshly, with others understanding the mum's frustrations.

One said: "Don't let judgemental d***heads stop you from doing what you are allowed to do. I know Mumsnet can make you feel like everybody is out to judge but in reality there aren't that many curtain twitching mumsnetters around."

Another said: "Please go for a walk. It’ll help you, I’m sure. Remember it’s just temporary. This is the darkness before the dawn."

A third added: "I feel the same. Living in a world where I can't see my daughter, nor she come to visit me."
