Mum transforms dated staircase for under £80 with budget buys from Ikea and B&Q

A money-savvy mum-of-three has given the staircase at her house an insta-worthy revamp by spending less than £80 and doing the handiwork herself.

Sarah Lindsey, 37, of Perthshire, Scotland, sourced the materials from regular homeware stores and spent only £73.96 buying the white paint, four rugs and four lanterns for the transformation.

Sarah, a heart physiologist, said she looked for inspirations on Pinterest and Instagram before the renovation and believed she saved about £1,000 instead of hiring the professionals.

She told MailOnline : "When it came to the stairs, we initially thought to get a carpet company in but couldn't find anything we liked. The prices were so expensive too!

"It's so important to do things yourself, and to have something homemade.

"All you need really is a staple gun and some rugs to get going. I must have saved about £1,000."

Sarah split the work over several days as she repainted the stairs using a £4 white paint from a B&Q sale before putting four £14.99 rugs she bought from The Range and decorating it with four £2.50 lanterns from Ikea.

She and her partner Conor are currently renovating their cottage they share with children Niamh, 11, Skye, 6, and Toren, 15 months.

Her thrifty transformation has drawn appreciations on social media.

One wrote in the comment: "Sarah, the stairs look absolutely amazing!"

Another said: "It looks fab, love the lights, I think I need some more for our stairs!"
