Supermarket cakes can be pretty uninspiring but a mum has shown a simple way to transform them into a masterpiece.
Mum-of-two Rebecca Williams decided she wanted a hedgehog cake to celebrate her 40th birthday and headed out to the shops but couldn't find one anywhere.
Having previously made her own cakes, Rebecca decided to create her own and picked up a £3.49 Ms Mollys Chocolate Cake from Tesco, chocolate buttons and icing.
Posting a video of the transformation on her Instagram page, she cuts the cake into two main sections and puts one on top of the other, using the curve of the edge of the cake to create the hedgehog's body.
She then covers the it all in chocolate icing and smooths it out to finish off the hedgehog's shape, including a little snout.
Chocolate buttons are then embedded in the sponge on their side to create the critter's spines and two white buttons are placed on the hedgehog's face, with two black dots added to create eyes.
A rounded piece of chocolate is added to create an adorable nose to finish it all off.
Her 4,600 strong Instagram following loved her creative idea, with one saying: "OMG you’ve done an amazing job! Hope you have a great birthday."
"You are so, so talented," said a second.
A third added: "Can’t stop watching this!"
Home baking doesn't always go so swimmingly, as another mum found out when she baked her son a cake as he headed off to university.
The sweet gesture backfired slightly after she failed to notice how X-rated the message on top really appeared.
Blue icing on the sweet treat spelled out 'GOOD LUCK @ UNI' - but the @ symbol resembled a fancy C and the I in uni looked more like a T and we'll leave you to work out the rest.
