Mum 'touched' by woman's kindness as baby cries in Costa

A "lovely woman" made a new mum's day as her five-month-old baby cried in Costa.

Amanda Higino, 30, stopped for a coffee at Costa in Penny Lane Shopping Centre near Smithdown Road after getting blood tests on Wednesday, November 3.

But as she was standing in the queue her five-month-old baby Matteo started crying from hunger.

After leaving the line to feed her baby boy at a nearby table, the woman who was stood behind her in the queue approached, offering to buy her coffee.

Amanda told the ECHO: "It was really nice, because, especially not being from here, sometimes you just feel, I don't know. In general, people are really nice to me. I can't complain.

"But it's just the feeling that I'm not from here, so you are never expecting something nice like that to happen, so it was really good."

Originally from Brazil, Amanda hasn't seen her parents since before the pandemic in January 2020.

Amanda is "so excited" and "literally counting down the days" until her parents visit later this month to see their only child and grandchild.

She said it can be "quite hard" not having family around to help care for the baby, meaning she's by herself with Matteo while her partner has to work.

Amanda said acts of kindness from strangers like the woman in Costa make a difference when someone is struggling, because "no one really knows what the other person is going through".

Taking to Facebook after the encounter, Amanda said: "This might sound like nothing to some people but I was so touched by her kindness that I wish I could have thanked her properly.

"It's so hard sometimes doing simple things like going out for a coffee with the baby and this lady's gesture just made my day! So, to the lovely woman who tried to help, if you're reading this, THANK YOU VERY MUCH."

At the time, Amanda wasn't sure how to react to the woman's kind gesture.

She told the ECHO: "I didn't really know what to say, like I felt really thankful and grateful for that, but I just I didn't really have a reaction.

"And I think that's the reason why I wanted to write the post, because I should have thanked her properly."

Amanda added: "I just wish more people were like that, because that's what we need.

"I think when something nice like that happens, it's just some hope that you get for your life."
