Mum-to-be left 'upset and humiliated' after husband demanded she carry his luggage

Airports can be stressful and sometimes they will bring the worst out of people, but one recent viral thread detailed a man who took things too far.

The thread, which was uploaded onto the online forum Reddit, details a pregnant woman's experience at an airport with her husband which left her feeling "upset and humiliated".

The unnamed woman explained that her 32-year-old husband was on on a month-long work trip and she had gone to collect him as he returned.

However, any excitement that she may have had to see her partner was short lived, the Mirror reports.

Apparently the man demanded that his pregnant wife carry his two heavy bags because he was exhausted after the plane journey.

Turning to the internet for some advice, she recalled: "The second he saw me he let go of his two big bags and started walking. I tried to get him to stop but he told me to get the bags and follow him.

"Note that I'm 12 weeks pregnant but he tells me that I'm still 'in good shape'. I told him those bags were too heavy for me to carry but he went on a rant about how exhausted he was from sitting on that plane for four hours straight. His arms, neck, legs, and back hurt."

The mortified wife, who goes by the username u/overreaction536435, says she point blank refused to take a single step with the bags, telling him that, as this was his luggage, he should be the one to "deal with it".

She continued: "I told him to get someone to carry his bags for him and he replied 'I already have one and it's you. Come on, I'm so tired of standing' then kept walking and ignoring me.

"I walked out and got into my car and drove off because I was literally having none of it. I felt so upset and humiliated."

Her husband ended up getting a taxi home and was apparently "livid" upon his return, telling her that she "embarrassed him and made a scene and overreacted big time."

"I left his luggage where he left it and walked straight past him. He freaked out and started yelling at me to get back.

He's still furious with her, and she's now wondering whether or not, as he believes, she "reacted poorly and in an unsupportive; inappropriate manner."

However, many people have expressed alarm at her husband's behaviour, concerned by what they perceive as a complete lack of respect.

One worried person wrote: "A lot of abuse starts when the woman gets pregnant. And seriously, what dude in his right mind just drops his bags on his girl like she's a valet. It's time for a divorce."

Another advised: "Get out of this relationship. Pregnant or not, dumping your bags on the floor and expecting your partner to carry them is disgusting behaviour.

"He was trying to exert his control over you. It starts like this and turns into bigger sorts of abuse. It's very important you don't brush this situation under the rug."
