Mum terrified as man and woman suddenly appear in her garden and 'look her in the eye'

A mum-of-three was left "terrified" after two people appeared in her garden at night, before looking her in the eye and walking off.

Katie Tanner, 36, from Southport, Merseyside, was at her kitchen table doing an online course when she saw something moving in her peripheral vision just before 9pm.

She looked out the window to be greeted by the sight of a man and a woman, both dressed in dark colours.

Chillingly, the man looked Katie right in the eye as he walked past her kitchen window to let he and his acquaintance out of the shaken mum's garden.

The personal trainer told the Liverpool Echo : "I was sat at my dining table on my laptop with the kids in their bedrooms. All of a sudden I saw something in my peripheral vision and it was a male and female just walking past my dining room window heading for the back gate.

"I jumped up and he kind of turned and looked straight at me. I don't know if he thought I was going to come to the back door something but I grabbed my phone and ran upstairs.

"I made sure the kids were in their bedrooms and I rang my neighbour saying 'there's three people in my garden can you come round?'"

The mum told the publication that the pair left through the back gate and headed up a nearby street.

After checking her CCTV cameras, Katie said the pair had entered her property via a wall from a graveyard that borders her gadren.

"They've had a bit of a look round, went through the shed, hid behind the bushes in the garden then walked to the back gate, looked me in the eyes and left," she said.

Police now want to talk to the pair. A police spokesperson told the ECHO: "We can confirm that enquiries are ongoing after suspicious circumstances in Southport last night, Thursday 12 August.

"At around 8.45pm, officers were called to Portland Street to reports of a man and woman in the garden of a property, before they walked off. Nothing was taken or entry gained but the residents were left shaken.

"Local Community Policing officers will be carrying out a reassurance."
