Mum 'terrified' after fireworks launched at her house as baby slept

A mum was left 'terrified' after fireworks were launched at her house by a teenager while her baby slept inside.

Lucy Ellis, a mum-of-two, was home alone with her one-year-old daughter Scarlett when she heard the 'bang', the LiverpoolEcho reports.

The 24-year-old said she thought it was a gunshot at first before seeing 'smoke everywhere'.

Lucy's husband Mark was at work at Tesco at the time and her five year old son Noah was at his grandad's at the time of the incident.

No one was hurt in the attack and no damage was done to the house on Ash Street in Southport.

Lucy, 24, told the ECHO: "I was terrified. I have anxiety so it wasn't the best, luckily my daughter was fine and asleep."

Merseyside Police confirmed a teenager, believed to be around 15 or 16 years old, was riding a bike when he aimed a firework towards a house on Ash Street at around 10.50pm on Saturday, August 14.

The boy is described as being white, short, slim and around 15/16 years old.

He is also believed to have been wearing black clothes. Officers believe he rode towards Cemetery Road after the incident.

Lucy added: "I was just in my living room then I heard a bang, I didn't know what it was. I thought it was a gunshot at first. Next minute I heard another bang and it was louder. Then there was smoke everywhere.

"I rang police straight away. The lad was just watching me."

Community Inspector Graham Fisher said: “Thankfully this firework didn’t hurt anyone or cause any damage, but was very alarming for the woman and young child inside.

“Residents in Merseyside have every right to be able to settle down in their own homes of an evening without being subjected to an incident like this.

“If you witnessed anyone behaving suspiciously before 11pm in the Ash Street area on Saturday, please contact police. Any information could provide vital as we try to identify who is responsible.”
