Mum swears by charity shops for Christmas gifts with some of her finds costing just 49p

A TikTok charity shopping queen is saving herself a fortune this Christmas by doing her festival haul in charity shops. Mum of two Rachel Hutchinson has more than 52,000 followers on her video channel, and knows a thing or two about second-hand shops.

With rising costs of living and a need to tighten the purse strings ever more, the thought of Christmas shopping can fill one with dread. But Rachel, or ‘rachmariex’ as she is known to her TikTok followers, shows how you can still buy fantastic pressies at a fraction of the cost.

It’s a win-win because the charity shops benefit too. In her video, Rachel shows how it is done and comes home with a stack of gifts and with some money left in your wallet.

The cheapest gift in her charity shopping haul cost just 49p. You could barely buy a bar of chocolate for that these days and she’s as pleased as punch. "What I’ve got so far for Christmas for my little girls from the charity shop," she tells her viewers.

"I got this Magic Maths set which was £2.99 and it is all there because I do double check. I got these bath bombs that have got slime inside, they were 99p. I got another Secret Safe diary because my other little girl has got one, that was £2.99."

The bargains keep on coming too: "I got this huge bag of

Barbies

, there’s loads of different Barbies in here and I’m going to do them all up, dress them up, they don’t know any different and they were £3.99 and there’s absolutely loads in here, plus loads of little accessories."

Those new to charity shops were reassured by Rachel’s shopping spree, which showed you can lay your hands on some decent gifts, some barely used, others brand new.

"They are going to have such a lovely Christmas - fabulous work mummy," said one fan.

While another, also a veteran of the charity shop, said: "Amazing, I've got loads of gifts too from charity shops, some new tags, some not, but it's just mad how shops charge like 5 times the price."

If anyone was in doubt about some of her bargains, another commenter noted: "Them Poopsie bath bombs are £10 on Amazon!"

She certainly enthused others, with one writing: "Brilliant!!! I am going to hit up my charity shops. 1000% inspired me."
