Mum splits opinion with baby name as some say it sounds like a 'lice treatment'

Choosing a baby name isn't always easy, and some parents will spend months trying out different combinations of first names and middle names before they settle on one they really like.

Whatever you choose to name your baby is your decision and shouldn't be influenced by anyone else, but one mum on Reddit has split opinion with her unique choice - as some say it sounds like a treatment for headlice and nits.

The woman said she's naming her daughter Athena but has been trying to come up with a suitable middle name, with her only rule being that it must be one syllable.

But after stating that her favourite choice so far is 'Athena Nyx', people have said they're not entirely convinced.

In her post, she wrote: "Is Athena Nyx too much? Be honest. I'm trying to decide on a middle name. I know I want a one syllable name and it’s between a few choices but this combination is my favourite.

"I’m just wondering if the double goddess name is too much. I do love the meaning and the name.

"I think it just goes great together, but I feel like anyone who hears the name will think it’s a bit weird and I’m really into mythology when I’m actually not."

Commenters on the post were split over the name, with one person even suggesting it sounds like a treatment for headlice and nits, as Nix is the name of a lice treatment brand.

They said: "I'm not loving it. I don't like the name Nyx. Nix is a lice treatment and that's all I think of, plus I don't think Nyx sounds attractive at all."

As someone else added: "Nix is a lice treatment, that's the first association I have, sorry."

Others agreed the name was "too much", but there were some commenters who said they "loved" the moniker.

One wrote: "Way too much."

While another said: "Sounds like a brand of some kind of feminine hygiene products."

But someone else disagreed, stating: "I love it, but I’m a nerd."

As a fourth posted: "Meanings aside, it does sound really nice in my opinion. It has a nice flow."
