Mum spends Christmas delivering meals through special drive-thru service

A Nottingham woman is spending her Christmas Day preparing and giving out free meals to those who need it most.

Mo Fayose, 46, of Basford, is holding her her fifth Christmas Day dinner for those with nowhere to go during the festive period.

The mum-of-two, who is a former mental health nurse, got help from her children, aged 17 and 21, to help her cook around 200 meals.

She organised a drive-thru from her caravan near her home in Perry Road for people to come and collect their food.

Ms Fayose had used £5,000 of her own money to organise the event and received a loan from her mum just so she was able to get all of the equipment.

She doesn't sleep on Christmas Eve and won't go to bed until around 11pm tonight so she can try and feed as many people as possible.

People from across Nottinghamshire arrived at Perry Road and her caravan to receive their homemade Christmas dinners today.

Ms Fayose told Nottinghamshire Live: "What time did I start? I’ve no idea, it was last night - I haven’t stopped! There’s so much to do. But look at everyone that is here and helping, it is a real team effort today, it’s fantastic.’"

Paul Ainger, 56, who is one of the volunteers, added: "I just think it’s a great thing to do. I just like to give something back.

"She’s amazing, it’s a one woman band - I’ve no idea how she does it. She deserves recognition - she’s been at this now for four or five years - it’s amazing how she gets everything together, the people, the food and donations. She’s an incredible woman."

She also offered free Christmas meals to NHS staff, support workers and care assistants this year as a thank you for their efforts fighting against the pandemic on the frontline.

The Good Samaritan previously hired a hall to hold a free event for whoever wants to attend, which usually includes a full Christmas dinner, music, and entertainment. This was made impossible this year due to the pandemic.

She said: "There are tonnes of people who are isolated because of the pandemic. The amount of referrals we are getting from people who are on their own.

"The pandemic has made more people lonely. It is painful."

She added: "The lockdown is not going to stop me delivering my Christmas dinners."
