Mum spends 20 hours in frantic bid to untangle 150 sticky toys from girl's hair

A mum is warning parents of using Bunchems - colourful toy balls that stick together - after she spent 20 hours in a frantic bid to untangle 150 of them from her daughter's hair.

Lisa Hoelzle said her two six-year-old twins were playing in the basement of her home when one of them poured 'a container' of the balls onto his sister's head.

In a post on Facebook Lisa said when she saw what had happened she 'had an out of body experience.'

The 47-year-old from Pennsylvania, US, said: "She had about 150 of these things layered and matted in her hair.

"They made it worse trying to remove them themselves because the connect together like Velcro.

"It took me about 3 hours to get out 15."

She said that on researching the product online she saw that conditioner and vegetable oil were suggested for just such a scenario, and this removed about 10 more.

She went on: "Before you knew it , it was 1am and Abigail could not keep her eyes open . I slept with her head on me so they wouldn’t get more tangled. Not that I really could sleep.

"If we cut them out because of how deep they were she would have winded up with a short pixie cut.

"It crushed my heart and I just couldn’t in my heart give up without trying my best to get them out."

The next morning they went to a shop to get more supplies, including mineral oil and a detangling comb.

She said: "It was such a long day .. I never watched so much kids You Tube to entertain her but after 20 hours total after pulling and working them out of her head and lots of hair loss I got them all out."

The mum went on to warn other parents against using the toy and said: "This will be something we will never forget, very traumatic experience in the Hoelzle house hold this weekend.

"I kept trying to think we have our health it could be worse but boy oh boy what a sickening feeling."

The maker of Bunchems released a video shortly after they were launched in 2013, explaining how to remove them from hair.
