Mum sleeps with baseball bat beside bed after men caught on camera outside home

A terrified mum is sleeping with a baseball bat after her door bell camera caught masked men creeping around outside her home and looking in her car.

The woman, who requested not to be named, warned those living in the Bartley Green just outside of Birmingham as well as neighbouring area Harborne to be "extra vigilant" of potential thieves.

As reported by Birmingham Live, the footage shows a man with his face covered walk up to the mum's Tigley Avenue address around 4.43am on August 29 before covering the door's camera with his hand.

They are dressed in a light hoody wearing trainers, black gloves, a balaclava and a bag.

Another person appears in the shot shortly after when the man walks back down the drive.

A separate camera shows the masked pair lingering around the homeowner's car with a flash torch before eventually walking away.

Terrified from the incident, the homeowner told BirminghamLive: "I have a premature baby girl in intensive care for three months.

"I need my car to see her. So now I'm sleeping with a baseball bat and also placing glass cups on our door handles.

"It's so sad that we need to leave car keys by the doors to stop them breaking in and hurting our loved ones. Sad that we can't have good things in our lives."

After sharing her plight online, other residents in Bartley Green and Harborne came forward to say they were also targeted on the same night.

Door-cam footage shared by residents appeared to show the same pair, wearing similar clothing, attempt to break into other homes and cars.

West Midlands Police have yet to issue a statement on the incident.
