A mum has slammed her son's school for allegedly giving him detention for not wearing a badge.
Stacey Ritchie, from Doncaster, said it is "ridiculous" her son Thomas, 14, was punished over the badge that makes up part of the uniform at Sir Thomas Wharton Academy in Edlington.
Thomas went to school without it after Stacey had removed it to wash his blazer, YorkshireLive reports.
The lad was reportedly given an hour of detention after school for not wearing the badge, which displayed his house name.
She further claims Thomas had also accepted the replacement badge a teacher offered him.
Stacey said she refused to let her son attend the hour-long detention, despite the school allegedly saying Thomas would have to attend one the next day if he didn't.

She explained: "I'm refusing to let him stay for the detention. I find it ridiculous that it is over a badge.
"If he wasn't doing his work, then I could understand, or if he wasn't good with his attitude or his behaviour in school, then absolutely fine, he's had detentions before for silliness, but a badge that's on his blazer that tells him his house name, I don't think that is grounds to stand on for a detention."

Stacey also claims the school did not notify her that Thomas was supposed to stay late and that he had to break a rule by using his phone to tell her his younger brother Alfie that he would have to walk home alone.
She says Thomas and Alfie, 11, who both attend the same school, walk home together when they cannot be collected by a guardian.
She added: "If their grandparents had gone they would be worrying."
Stacey said Thomas is vigilant about the uniform policy and even recently had the mum repeat the journey to school to collect a lanyard he left in the car.
Stacey said: "You could see the panic in his face and he wouldn't go in."
