Mum slammed for charging pals to attend baby shower - and they have to bring gift

As a society we love to celebrate big life moments - from graduating university to getting married.

One woman recently planned an exciting party to celebrate her pregnancy, but then decided that one event just wasn't enough.

The mum-to-be opted to throw a baby shower and a gender reveal event to mark the upcoming birth of her child and because two parties ended up being a little pricey, she decided to try and cheekily charge her guests an entry fee.

But a close pal wasn't having any of it.

Revealing all in a post on Reddit, the upset guest claims her friend asked each attendee to pay £16 on top of buying a present to be part of the special day.

The unnamed woman says she is a student but has to work full-time to cover her bills, so taking a day off for the events was going to put her in a tricky situation, but she knew it was important that she be there for her friend.

She wrote: "I went ahead and told her I would request off work and definitely be there. A week later I went out and splurged and bought bottles, pacifiers, baby shampoo etc.

"About a week before the baby shower I get a text from her saying this party would actually be a gender reveal party and they were having a separate baby shower three weeks later that she wanted me to come to as well.

"I was slightly annoyed because I knew I was going to have to request off work again and buy another gift. I told her I would try my best to be there but couldn't make any promises.

"Two days before the now 'gender reveal' party she texts me in a big group message of people and says there's an entry fee of $20 to the party! I was seriously blown away. I understand it takes planning and money to put together a party but it was her choice to have one."

So she messages her friend to say she can't afford the fee after splashing out on a baby shower gift, but the other woman was unsympathetic.

She replied: "Sorry girl, I can't make just an exception for you. You promised you would be there."

This gender reveal backfires spectacularly - literally

In the end the woman decided not to attend the party and the mum was furious, uninviting her from the second event and ending their friendship.

People who saw the post were shocked and branded the mum-to-be 'trash' for the move.

One person commented: "An entry fee for that sort of party sounds super insane to me. Who does that?"

Another said: "Trash people throw as many cash-grabs as possible. Guessing she's the kind to have an engagement party, bridal shower and stag-do, while cheaping out on the wedding and asking for cash."

A third added: "An entry fee for a party at someone's house is the tackiest s*** I've ever heard."
