Mum slammed for being 'cheeky' after asking parents to pay £25 fee to attend child's birthday party

Parents have been left outraged after a mum confessed she had been asked to pay £25 to supervise her child at a birthday party.

A mum took to Mumsnet to ask others whether it was out of order for not wanting to pay the unexpected fee for a 'adult ticket' to a activity venue.

The mum said she felt the cost was 'cheeky' considering that she had already purchased card and gift for the birthday child before finding out about the extra cost she was going to have to pay.

The mum wrote: "My DS [darling son] has been invited to a child's party on Sunday. It's at an activity place with a climbing wall then food afterwards. Accepted invitation weeks ago, have bought card and gift etc.

"We've been sent a message yesterday from birthday child's parent last night which says that all children under eight must be supervised by an adult each, which is OK with me I don't mind staying (would rather not, but it's not the end of the world) but that in order to stay and supervise we have to buy a full price adults ticket, which costs £25!

"Is this usual? It seems a bit of a cheek to me! It is only a small party, maybe eight children? And they're all under eight except for the birthday child, so all parents will have to stay and pay. I suspect most parents were planning on staying regardless as they're quite young but I don't think anyone would have expected to fork out £25 for the privilege!"

Parents were quick to respond to the post, with many in uproar over the extra cost, and even claiming they would cancel the party completely.

One user said: "This is ridiculous. There's no way I'd pay £25 to supervise at a child's party.

"What about parents who can't afford it?"

Another person said: "That's not ok. Making parent pay that much to attend child's birthday party? No way.

"I will cancel and just send them the card and present."

One mum called the situation 'ridiculous' She wrote: " I’d call the venue and ask if this is true first. If it is, I’d tell them you can’t attend. There’s no way I’d pay £25 to supervise my child at someone else’s birthday party."

Would you pay the £25 to watch? Or would you cancel? Let us know in the comments below.
