Mum slammed by other parents for 'packing kids too much food' in lunchboxes shares heartbreaking explanation

A mother-of-four was 'lunchbox shamed' by other parents about the size of her kids' meals.

The Australian mum was surprised when she found herself the victim of judgemental comments by fellow mothers on Facebook, because of a picture she posted of her children's packed lunches.

The image showed a set of lunchboxes containing sandwiches, crisps, pretzels, fruit and (Aussie sponge cake treat) lamingtons.

She was forced to defend the packed lunches she'd made for her two high schoolers and and two primary school children.

The woman, who remained anonymous, insisted her children were not overweight, nor did they waste food, the Mirror reports.

Other mums left judgmental comments on her post.

"How do they have time to eat and play too," one said.

Another added: 'My kids wouldn't eat all that in a week.'

And then she went on to explain the heartbreaking reason behind her choice.

She told critics that she didn't skimp on lunch snacks because she often 'starved' as a child and wanted to give them what she never had, according to the Mail Online.

She wrote: "I was lucky to get even three food items. I do this to ensure they don't get hungry. If they have leftovers they will eat them when they get home instead of an afternoon snack."

Following the flurry of comments and attention that her post received, she reportedly went on to explain exactly what one of her children would take in their school lunchbox.

This includes : one sandwich, a handful of grapes and blueberries, 12 pretzels, one lamington finger, five crackers with five slices of cheese, a packet of crisps, and sometimes a slice of watermelon.

She said the school's headteacher had once poked fun at the size of her children's lunches, asking if they had room for anything else in their bags.

"Yeah, we managed to fit a drink bottle and a hat as well," she quipped back.
