Mum shoots dead husband, son, dad and herself as eviction began to remove family

A mum shot dead her husband, son and 74-year-old dad - and then killed herself - after police served an eviction notice.

Theresa Cain, from Ohio, US, attempted to kill her daughter Samantha, 20, at their home in Ohio Township on February 27 but she remarkably survived.

However, the teen currently remains in a critical condition in hospital following the horrific murder-suicide after Clermont County Sheriff's Office arrived to serve eviction papers at around 9.40am.

The mum went to the patio to greet the officials when she quickly rushed back to her front door as she muttered 'no, no, no, no,' before firing multiple gunshots.

Theresa's husband Steven Cain, 50, son Ethan Cain, 13 and her father William Felton, 74 were all shot dead after their $299,000 (£266,000) was repossessed and purchased for $230,000 (£191,000).

Husband Steven, who was a singer in a heavy metal band called Critical Khaos, was shot dead in the garage at the home - thirty minutes before the eviction officers arrived, according to police.

The family had struggle with their finances for a while, which is said to be the motivation behind the tragic murder-suicide.

Police spoke to Theresa just days before the eviction and was 'cooperative', Sheriff Steve Leahy said.

She asked for a few more hours so the family could pack up their item and promise to vacate the house by 10am.

But as soon as officials came to the patio of the door she killed three members of her family including her 74-year-old dad William, who lived at the home, and 13-year-old son, Ethan.

Husband Steven was found downstairs with police believing he was shot first.

Authorities have suspicion Theresa may have hid the eviction notice from her family after officers turned up to the home and found there were no bags packed.

Mr Leahy said: "You would think there would be resources for someone like them but I think she kept this a very close secret.

"'Hopefully, Samantha recovers and can help fill in some blanks.

"It is tragic and unnecessary. What can we do to keep this from happening again?’ Well, I’m just not that sure that we can.

"When people are in crisis, it’s not as easy as just reaching out and saying, "I need help." They are spiralling. Nothing makes sense.'

"What we see here, you can’t make sense of this. Murder is a senseless thing but then you throw in suicide and the homicide of your family. It’s all very sad. This lady had been totally cooperative the entire time."

Steven's band issued a heartfelt statement as they announced the lost of their lead singer.

Critical Khaos said: "Unfortunately, our singer is no longer with us. He has been caught up in a murder suicide (just to be clear, he was shot and killed).

"'We do not wish to speculate or say anything more. For peace of the family and the band we ask for remembrance of a good man, good soul, excellent front man and most of all our band brother. It's family we have lost today."

Alicia Humphrey, a local neighbour, said she was stunned to hear the news and said they appeared to be a normal family.

She said: "I think we just never know. All we can do is pray for that family."

Authorities are currently investigating the murders.
