Well, one mum has just discovered an interesting use for it and wants everyone to know all about it.
Chloe Lee from Ashton-under-Lyne has taken to Facebook to share that she has installed a washing up liquid dispenser in the "pointless" hole, after seeing someone else do the same in a video on TikTok.
Writing in the group, Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It, the 24-year-old explained: "Please tell me I'm not the only one who didn't know this.
"I hate the fact that my washing up liquid is always on show.
"Seen a video last week of a man removing the pointless circle from his sink and adding a soap dispenser!"
Chloe added: "Was so easily pleased, I ordered one. It's the little things that make us happy."
The mum added that the dispenser she ordered cost just £6.99 from eBay and it fits in her sink "perfectly".
Hundreds of people liked her post, with many commenting to say the new information had blown their minds.
"Wow, this is absolutely life changing," proclaimed one excited person.
Another, who had never even noticed the extra hole in her sink, replied: "I've just ran downstairs to look and got giddy when I realised I had one."
A third added: "What a great idea! Ordered one this morning."
"I'm going to look for my pointless circle when I finish work and see if I can do this," said someone else.
