Mum shares unique birthday gift for son's 18th and other parents are calling it 'genius'

A mum shared the gift she made for her son's 18th birthday online - and fellow parents are obsessed with it.

Any parent with a teenager knows how hard it can be to buy for them when it comes to their birthday or Christmas.

So the mum shared the DIY gift she put together for her son to ensure he would be happy with what he got.

The mum was praised for her 'genius' idea (Facebook)

She had arranged five different gift cards on a notice board with a note beside each one

The note read: "Happy 18th Caylan.

"Treat yourself to something for the road untravelled, for your car or fishing. Enjoy now you’re 18 and legal but get home safe. Love Dad, Alicia and Ava."

Beside the note was a number of gift cards for different shops.

There was a MasterCard debit card, gift cards for Coles, Rebel Sport - and other brands - Liquorland and Uber.

She also shared a picture of the sweet set-up for the big day, with balloons, another gift boxed present and the notice board of gift cards.

Since being posted to  Facebook, hundreds of parents have praised the Australian mum's present reported  news.com.au.

One said: "That’s very cool. Great idea Hun I might just copy it."

Another wrote "Fantastic idea. Beautifully put together and well thought out."

And a third added: "This is the best! I've taken a picture of your design so I can try and do the same."
