Mum shares 'ultimate bedtime trick' and says it gets kids to sleep in seconds

A Child development specialist and teacher known only as Macy has taken to TikTok and YouTube to share all she knows about little humans.

Her tutorial on how to get kids to fall asleep instantly became viral, with millions of views and thousands of comments on her @macysapp account.

The trick is so effective, a shocking amount of comments were people saying they had almost or actually did fall asleep during the video.

Macy’s trick consists of two simple steps, neither of which should ignite world war three in the family home.

The first is getting the child into bed, but not telling them to go to sleep. According to Macy this can bypass the kicking, screaming and begging to avoid bedtime.

She said: “If you want to make your child fall asleep really quickly I have the ultimate trick.

“I used to do this when I would nanny and babysit all the time and they would always call me the child whisperer because I can make any kid fall asleep and this is my magical trick.

“First, I always tell them: ‘You don’t have to go to sleep’. Because they want to argue with you they want to go get water, go to the bathroom. They want to do all these things to fight you on it so reassure them.”

Instead, she suggested parents simply say: “You just have to lay here but you don’t have to go to bed. I’m just going to read stories.”

Then, the magical trick is not in what story parents read but how they read it.

“Number two, you’re going to read in this tone of voice, this is how you’re going to read: ‘Carefully Charlie pulled it out from under the snow. It was damp and dirty but otherwise perfect.’.”

Macy explained this low, quiet and slightly monotone voice that is eerily similar to meditation guides on YouTube, hypnotises the children.

She added: “Every time you continue reading you’re going to talk slower and drag out your words and talk really quietly. It basically hypnotises them and they pass out.

“You’re welcome.”

The TikTok video was inundated with thousands of comments from people thanking Macy and sharing their own tips for getting children to sleep.

One commenter noted their own mum’s cheeky trick: “My mom used to always tell us if we didn’t fall asleep in 15 minutes we could get up. Thing is, we couldn’t tell time. It worked!”
