Mum shares homemade hack to ripen avocados in just 10 minutes and people love it

A mum has seen her homemade hack go viral after she shared her trick to ripen avocados in just 10 minutes using an air fryer.

Avocados can be tricky judge to know when they are ready to eat, and frustratingly seem to turn from unripe to completely off in the blink of an eye.

But one mum took to the Air Fryer Recipes Australia Facebook page to share how to use the popular kitchen appliance to ensure you have the perfect avocado every time.

People have previously recommended placing avocados in the oven on a low temperature if they are rock hard and not ready to eat, but the mum found a quicker way around the problem.

She wrote: "Air fryers, is there anything they can’t do?! Tonight we had tacos for dinner and I couldn’t find a ripe avo for the guacamole (typical!).

She put it in the fridge afterwards to cool it down (Facebook/Air Fryer Recipes Australia)

"I'd heard you can ripen them in the oven so I googled it and did it in the air fryer instead."

She explained that while the fruit she used wasn't "super hard", it was still too unripe to mash and said she began by wrapping the whole avocado in tin foil.

Placing it in the air fryer, she set the temperature to 200 degrees and started the timer for 10 minutes, saying it was perfect by the time it came out.

She added: "I’d recommend that you let it cool in the fridge before using, but it works! I'd always rather a normal ripe avocado, but this works in a pinch."

The mum answered questions in the comments to confirm the inside of the avocado had remained a "normal green colour" and didn't turn brown after going through the air fryer.

The hack went viral, racking up hundreds of comments from other members of the group, as reported by News.com.au.

One said: "We had the exact same situation happen! Thank you so much for this."

And another wrote: "I'm going to keep this trick up my sleeve!"
