Mum shares 'genius' £4 plane hack to keep kids occupied on flights

A mum has shared a £4 travel tip to keep kids occupied on plane journeys, and it has been called "genius".

Any parent or guardian who has ever travelled with young children will know how difficult it can be to keep them entertained. Kids who are bored can easily throw a tantrum and cause a stressful situation all around.

This is why it is important to ensure you pack plenty of things for them to do while on a plane. While these days it is increasingly common to give them an iPad or a tablet to play with, one mum shared a more old-fashioned solution.

She purchased £4 toiletry bags from eBay and repurposed them into fun "play bags" for her children. The variety of pouches in the bags include things such as pencils, colouring books, and puzzles.

Taking to Facebook to share the idea, she wrote: "I am travelling with 2 girls in couple weeks on plane, so I created these play bags from eBay for £4 each for them to hang on the table hook on the airplane or in the car. I have so far packed pencils, small puzzle, stickers, pages from colouring book, activity pages (mazes, finish picture etc).

"I am also going to get a small lego figure to build snacks and treats. You can obviously customise it to your child’s interests. They only measure around 20x26cm when folded."

The post has since received more than 1,000 likes and nearly 250 comments. Fellow parents were quick to give their verdict on the unique idea.

"Brilliant Idea love it," one wrote, while a second agreed: "Such a great idea".

A second revealed: "Definitely pinching this idea, thanks for sharing".

"Fantastic idea, try and get some card games, a little book and some little sweets," commented a third, while a fourth echoed: "Fantastic idea, have a good holiday".

A fifth meanwhile wrote: "Nice to see that your kids won't be stuck with tablets infront of them, this is a sight that is too often seen. Hope your girls enjoy there packs and the holiday of course".

"Genius idea," a sixth simply said.

Other Facebook users suggested alternative ways to keep kids occupied on flights, with one commenting: "Ear plugs are brilliant to pack too as little ears sometimes can't cope with the air pressure change. Godsend with our granddaughters."

A second posted: "Depending on their ages you can create bingo games of things they may see/ hear whilst travelling. Drawstring bag with buttons and a noughts and crosses grid on the front is another idea."
