Mum shares baby name and gets savaged as some say it's not right for 'ordinary' kid

Settling on a baby name is no easy task, especially if you decide to share your potential choices with your nearest and dearest - or the people of the internet.

One mum-to-be recently did the latter as she asked for opinions on a possible boy's name for her baby and strangers did not hold back on their brutally honest opinions.

The unnamed parent took to BabyCentre's Baby Names group to ask what fellow mums and dads made of the name Fox, which was something she'd recently come across and was "growing on her".

She wrote: "Thoughts on baby name Fox for a boy.

"Always struggle with boys' names, whilst looking we came across the name Fox, wasn't sure at first but it's growing on me I think!

"Still got a while to decide so just after people's thoughts on it! Does anyone know anyone called Fox?"

Dozens of people responded to the post, with some saying they knew babies called Fox, but others savagely criticising the moniker.

One person replied: "I know a friend of a friend who called her son Fox and I think Mark Owen from Take That had a daughter called Fox. Definitely unique."

Another said: "I really like this name."

Someone else thought it was "too much" saying: "A lady on here has a girl called Fox. I like nature names like Forest and Orion but not Fox it’s too much for me just my opinion."

While a different user proclaimed: "It's OK for a rock star kid who doesn't need a proper job or career. It's too random for the ordinary. Imagine shouting fox across the park. Maybe look at names that mean fox?"

A fifth commented: "I keep seeing this name pop up everywhere, I think it's awful but just not to my taste at all."

"I saw someone (online) that had animal names as their middle names. I think that's a nice way of doing it, especially if you're not too sure about being too out there," suggested a sixth.

A fellow parent added: "I considered the name Fox for my little boy two years ago. I love the name but in the end, I wasn't brave enough to choose it and I preferred the name I chose (Axel). Having said that, there will always be people that like or dislike any name so you should choose the name you like the most."
