Mum shamed for contents of son's lunchbox as parents say it's 'far too much'

A mum who was slammed by other parents for giving her son 'way too much' food in his lunchbox said she would pack even more if only it would fit.

The mum divided opinion after sharing a photo of the contents she regularly packs in her teenage son's school lunches, as she explained he 'never stops eating'.

The image shows two large sandwiches, three muesli bars, two mini muffins, two bananas, a cucumber, a large bag of grapes, apples, nectarines, carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes, a small bag of nuts and three varieties of cheese snacks.

Writing on Facebook, the mum from Australia wrote about her 17 year old's lunchbox: "The contents of a growing boy's snack/lunch bag for school.

"If I could fit more in I would as he NEVER stops eating!

"Everything from Aldi except one of the bars.

It's huge - but also full of fruit and veg (facebook)

"He eats some on the bus to and from school and leftovers get eaten after school when he’s doing his homework."

She added her son 'loves sports and the gym' and while no one questioned whether she was feeding her son a healthy selection of food, some hit out a the quantity she was giving him on a daily basis.

One simply replied: "This is way too much."

A second added: “That would be my kids' lunch/recess for a week."

A third wrote: "He eats more than me over two days."

Another said: "Healthy choices, but that’s still a lot of food. Bet that kid never stops moving."

But other parents defended her, recognising a similar size lunchbox to the ones they pack and finding no shock in the quantity of food required to keep them going, as reported by News.com.au.

One argued: "Those questioning the amount of food obviously don’t have teenage boys that are active.

"My nearly 14-year-old son trains or plays sport six days a week, sometimes morning and evening, and this is what he would eat also."

A second wrote: "I have three growing tall athletic boys, I know how you feel - endless appetite."

Another said: "What an awesome mum you are. That looks like a fantastic assortment of food for your growing boy and all healthy.

"You’re doing an amazing job."
