Mum sets wedding date with 'amazing' online boyfriend only to discover he's her ex

A single mum thought she had met the love of her life online, even setting a wedding date, only to find out the man she was talking to was her ex-partner.

Emma from Liverpool had been speaking to Harry every day on the phone.

She thought he was 'the one' and was excited for him to join her family.

Emma said: “He’s just everything that I could hope for in a guy.

“He looks amazing, he just ticks every single box, he’s literally perfection.”

But having only spoken via FaceTime when his room was darkened, Emma started to have her doubts.

The pair had planned on meeting, with Emma even travelling from Liverpool to an airport in London to meet him.

But he cancelled their date, saying he was unable to get his flight from Dubai where he had been on business.

Enlisting the help of MTV’s Catfish UK, experts Oobah Butler and Julie Adenuga discovered Harry was not who he claimed to be.

Their first clue came from a WhatsApp image of what Harry said was his car.

But when Julie researched the picture, she found it to be a stock photo of a Ferrari.

Komal - who Harry was posing as (MTV)

The next red flag was a picture Harry had ‘posted of himself’ wearing a hoodie with the name of a small business on the back.

Looking up the company, the team found a model named Komal that looked identical to Harry.

The man had stolen pictures from Komal’s social media and pretended to be him.

Julie sent ‘Harry’ a message confronting him about their finds as Emma burst into tears after discovering the truth.

Harry was adamant that it was him in the photos, but Oobah found it odd that the man had a northern accent, despite saying he was from London.

The following day, ‘Harry’ got in touch with Emma asking if they could meet at the Royal Albert Dock.

However, upon meeting Emma recognised Harry to be George, an older man she had dated last year.

An upset Emma said: “Are you joking me? This has been you the whole time.

“I've been wasting my time for six months, are you joking?”

George told Julie and Oobah why he catfished Emma.

He said: "Everything I said has been from me.

“I understand I shouldn't have done it, but it's the only way I could think to communicate with her, she's the love of my life.”

It was later revealed Emma and George are now friends.
