Mum says 'weed and drunks' at Pontins didn't bother her but then she saw her chalet

A mum has slammed Pontins for its broken furniture and filthy apartments as she warned other parents not to visit the Southport resort.

The holiday park, on Shore Road, Ainsdale, has had something of a bad reputation over the years, with a string of not-great reviews meaning the park has just a 2 out of five star rating on Tripadvisor.

Last week, Michelle Waddington, from Staffordshire, said her family's holiday to Pontins was ruined by people "smoking drugs" at the holiday park.

Though another mum who has stayed at the park recently told the ECHO she was pleasantly surprised, and that her chalet was "spotless".

One mum has this week enquired about taking her little one to the Southport Pontins.

Posting on parenting forum Mumsnet, user lancslass17 posed the question: "Has anyone been recently? Is it worth going with a three year old?"

She then followed this up, saying: "I know the reputation, I'm just wanting to know if there is actually anything happening for kids."

The thread attracted dozens of comments from parents.

One mum explained why she wouldn't return to the holiday park, saying: "I'm not posh. The weed smoking, bad language, and drunk people don't actually bother me too much - you can get the same [in other places]

"The filthy apartments, broken beds, windows that don't close etc do however bother me."

One said: "100% don't go, unless you want to be surrounded by weed smoking, boozing and fighting!"

Another wrote: "Friend went this half term... I'm too much of a lady to repeat her description but I really, really recommend you don't go."

A third said: "I went a few years ago. We left early and vowed never to go back."

A final parent wrote: "My husband and I have been to a few grim-ish places on holiday and we always make the best of it all and have fun. But Pontins? Never again! No way, Jose."

Pontins owner Britannia has been approached for comment.
