A savvy mum has shared a hack that saves her thousands of pounds every year.
The Australian woman, Janelle, takes advantage of discounted items and promotions at her supermarket by putting the money she would have spent on them into a separate savings account.
After she's paid for her food shop, she'll look at the receipt to see the total savings of her shop.
She then transfers that exact amount into a separate "shopping docket account" as if it doesn't exist, which she admits is a "nice little Christmas bonus" at the end of the year.
Janelle shared the tip on Facebook in the hopes of helping others who struggle to put money away.
She said: "I love a good budget too and refine ours all the time! Bloody good job if I do say so myself. Hope you all appreciate the tip," reports Daily Mail.
Since Janelle started using the method in January 2020, she has managed to save a staggering $2,500 (£1400).
This year she plans to use the $799.46 (£440) she's pocked so far, at Christmas.
"I am pretty much rewarding our good choices at the supermarket and it's a great Christmas bonus," she added.
She said that her bank allows her to open multiple accounts - so she has one for things she needs every day, mortgage payments, wages and the shopping savings account.
Since being posted, her idea has racked up more than 800 likes and dozens of comments from people vowing to give it a go.
One person wrote: "Just a fantastic idea, I'm going to start this week. Thanks for sharing."
