Mum's video of toddler explaining why she's sad leaves parents in stitches

Years before your child enters the famously challenging teenage years, there is another rocky phase - toddlerhood.

In some ways, it's arguably tougher - as these tiny tots can't always explain why they're so upset, or it might be that something they liked yesterday displeases them today.

Top that off with sleep problems and teething issues and it's fair to see why parents often speak about the toddler years with hushed tones.

It's a period of time filled with joy and wonder too, don't get us wrong, but there are famously a lot of tantrums.

If you have a toddler, you'll therefore be familiar with the sort of day one mum recently had.

She shared a video where her daughter explained why she was crying - and it left fellow parents in hysterics, as they related to the situation where their kids have up cried over something very, very silly.

In the viral clip, which she shared on TikTok, the mum can be heard asking: "You're sad because I said what?"

Between heartfelt sobs, the toddler replies: "You said dogs don't lay eggs," before adding between further tears: "That's what makes me sad."

In the caption, the mum admitted: "I didn't know she'd take it like this."

One fellow parent joked: "Recently I had a devastating conversation with mine because squirrels don't lay eggs, even though they have a nest, which [made them] sadder because he didn't hatch from an egg either."

Another wrote: "You must have rocked her wee world, like she was content in her knowledge that the sky is blue, birds fly and dogs lay eggs."

"One day the little girl I nannied was mad because I said I couldn't get her to the moon tomorrow," added a third.

"Tell me it's nap time without telling me it's nap time," joked one observant viewer.

Others noted that the little girl was handling her emotions pretty well, considering how devastated she was.

One fellow mum wrote: "At least they're expressing their feelings in a productive way! Most of the adults I know can't do this. They're going to grow up to be great."

Another added: "Well she's fantastic at expressing what she's feeling, which is a massive mummy win for you."
