Mum's tribute to 25-year-old carer 'with heart of gold' thought to have taken his own life

A devastated family has paid tribute to a 25-year-old "with a heart of gold" who is thought to have taken his own life.

Kiellan Taylor, from Fairwater, Cardiff, was described as a "happy go lucky" young man who "would do anything for anyone".

The former Cantonian High School pupil worked as a carer at St Jude Care Home, Roath, and was responsible for looking after people with dementia.

His mother Tracy is now aiming to raise awareness of mental health among young men so other families can avoid the same heartache.

She said: "My darling boy was born with a beautiful soul. He always had a smile and kind word for everyone.

"If he could help carry someone's burden he would, and always lend an ear to listen to your problems even though he had his own.

"He was such a kind and caring boy with a cheeky smile and infectious laugh. He never wanted to let anyone down if he could help it."

Tracy said she was "truly blessed" to have him in her life, even if it was for a short amount of time.

"I couldn't be more proud that he touched so many lives in a meaningful way," she added.

"We are hoping that out of this tragedy we can raise awareness of suicide and mental health in young men, and let them know that they aren't alone.

"There is someone out there who can help them carry their burden.

"My heart is breaking knowing that I will never hear his voice or feel his big hugs again, but by helping other families in his name he'll live in our hearts and memories."

Kiellan was only a few days away from his 26th birthday when he died on Sunday, August 2.

His cousin Laura Wootten has set up a GoFundMe page to help "take the strain" off the family during this grieving process.

Laura said: "In the first 24 hours the fundraising total just shot up.

"There are not enough words to thank people for their contributions. To say his mum, and all of us as a family, are overwhelmed is an understatement.

"It just shows how many people cared for him and how many lives he touched."
