Mum subjected to sickening racist abuse while shopping in Newcastle with her five-year-old daughter

A mum has spoken about the shocking racist threats and slurs she allegedly suffered while out shopping in Newcastle with her five-year-old daughter.

The mum, 27, was walking to her car in Morden Street car park on Friday evening with her sister and daughter when they were allegedly subjected to a vile verbal tirade from a passerby.

And moments later, as they made their way home in the car, their vehicle was allegedly attacked by a male who poured a can of lager over the windscreen before repeatedly throwing it at the doors.

Speaking after the incident the mum has told of her anger at repeatedly being insulted about her race in the city.

She said: "I've dealt with racism so many times that it's just a blur in my head.

"We heard shouts in the distance but when we heard someone shout shopping bags we knew that it was about us.

"We turned around and he said 'look at them f****** p****' and I said 'what?' and he said 'go back to your own country'.

"He said 'you p*** b*******' and ‘I’m going to kill you!’

The mum said they all remained calm, but the man continued to shout threats while they drove out the car park.

The 27-year-old said she began videoing the man as evidence to stand up her claims. But it was when he approached the car and attempted to open the car's doors that she became "worried".

She said: "He was still swearing and said 'your husband's a rapist'.

"My initial reaction was to laugh but when it got serious I really panicked. I was saying to my sister to just drive.

"I was really worried. I was thinking if the car doors were locked and my daughter was in the back seat. That was the point I really panicked.

"He got his can and threw it at the window and then the driver's door. It was crazy and the whole thing was absolutely surreal."

She said the incident has left her worried for her safety despite having lived in Newcastle for 14 years. She moved to Arthur's Hill in 2007 from Sunderland where she was born.

"When you've experienced racist and Islamophobic abuse so much you almost become used to it," added the mum.

"But because my daughter was there it really made me sad.

"After we left later on we parked up at the supermarket to get shopping and my daughter heard the car alarm go off and she screamed 'are they back?'.

"That was horrible to hear that as a mother. I felt so helpless for her."

Since the incident members of the public have taken to Facebook to send messages of support.

The mum added added: "A lot of people have come forward saying something similar had happened to them too. People were saying they were scared to go out the house.

"Newcastle is quite a diverse city and I never thought people we are surrounded by could be so racist and bigoted."

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At 7.07pm yesterday (Friday) police received a report of a disturbance on Mordern Street in Newcastle.

"It was reported that a man shouted racist remarks at a woman who was returning to her parked car with her daughter and sister. It was then reported that the man threw a can of beer at the car and tried to open the car door as they drove further down the road. The man has then left the scene.

"Enquires into the incident are ongoing and anyone who saw what happened or has any information is asked to contact us online using the 'Tell Us Something' function of our website or call 101 and quote log, 1042 230421."
