Mum's search for childhood dollhouse with special message from dad hidden inside

A mum is desperately searching for a dollhouse that her father hand-built for her 33 years ago - after learning he left a secret message to her under its roof.

Robert Brain, 63, built the miniature home for his five-year-old daughter Lois Duffield as a special Christmas present in 1989.

Lois, now 37, had planned to keep the sentimental gift as a family heirloom that she could one day pass on to her own children.

However, at the age of 21, her parents split and they moved out of the family home.

Without Lois' knowledge, her mother sold the dollhouse at an auction, according to Hull Live.

Recently, as a mother of two young girls, aged four and seven, Lois asked her father if he would make another one for her daughters, but he didn't want to because the original house held a lot of sentimental value to him.

That's when he asked if she had read the message he had left her under the roof of the house.

"I was only five so I hadn't known about it," Lois said. "He says he vaguely remembers the message but he won't share it with me because he hopes that one day we can get it back and I can find out for myself."

In the hopes of finding it, Lois posted an appeal on Facebook.

Soon after, she heard from a woman who she believes may have owned her dollhouse at one point.

"She said her Nana had won it at an auction when she was a little girl, but she's grown up now," Lois said.

"They tried to sell it but couldn't and they took it to a charity shop in Goole."

"We had a discussion and there were just so many similarities and features that were exactly the same.

"The plug was on the same side and it had this big base, it had a curtain with rails on. There were so many things that it had to have been the same house."

Lois she hopes her daughters will also be able to play with the dollhouse one day.

On top of that it would mean a great deal to her father if they got the dollhouse back.

She said: "He gets quite emotional about the house, when he found out I had posted about it on social media and spoken to the media, he's been very excited.

"This is the closest we've been to getting it back and he's talking about restoring it and adding a basement."
