Mum's rant about parents who have 'no shame' at always being late on the school run

A mum has had a go at parents who turn up to school late every morning with their children - and have no shame about it.

She said she knows "parenting is hard" but feels sorry for the children who are "ushered" into school late every day.

She says she cannot understand why "the same" parents are late with their children every single day - some arriving 15 minutes after the school doors open.

And Hull Live report she is fuming that those parents often don't seem to rush to make up lost time.

The issue has personally affected the mum because as a child she was always late to school and said she felt like "all eyes were on her" as she walked into the classroom late.

"Every day after taking DS (darling son) to school and DD (darling daughter) over to the pre-school, I see the same parents walking towards the school, by this point 15 minutes after it first started and they aren’t rushing either.

"We live in a village where most people live no further than a five minute walk away from the school. It’s a small place and most people walk (other than the few who live in the surrounding areas).

"I just feel sorry for the kids being ushered in so late in the morning. It’s the same parents every single day!! The school have sent home letters and everything about it. Do some people just not give a cr*p?"

The mum ranted about the issue on parenting website Mumsnet and other parents said it's exactly the same at their schools.

One mum said: "I live very close to school, literally two or three houses away.

"Every morning at 9.02 I see the same parent hurtling down the street with his child. Child is probably about six. Every fu*king morning. Just leave five minutes earlier."

Another said: "It’s unfair on the children and the teachers. We’ve all got busy lives but the majority of us get our kids to school on time."

Persistent lateness

Even a former teacher waded into the debate saying it's not good for the children to be late.

She said: "I was a teacher (primary) and it was the same children every time. They missed parts of the lesson - one child I taught never made it in time for the register and therefore missed a lot of the phonics/number recognition and general days of the week/name recognition stuff we did at the beginning of the day.

"It puts pressure on the teacher to help them catch up, it often leaves the child unsettled and uncomfortable for the rest of the day.

"Everyone runs into trouble sometimes - traffic, nose bleed, sudden illness, all sorts of reasons, and most schools understand that. It's persistent lateness that has a really sad impact on school work, the school day, confidence and all sorts of other things."
