Mum's outrage as teacher drags son, 9, through class - but won't tell her why

A mum is outraged after her nine-year-old son was dragged through the classroom by his teacher.

Amanda Bowie said her son Michael who attends Oxley State School in Oxley, Australia, has been left traumatised and now fears going to class, Australian TV show A Current Affair reports.

Ms Bowie said she found out about the incident through one of Michael's classmates, but has yet to receive any information from the school.

Amanda said: "I found out from one of Michael's classmates.

"She came running up to me saying that the teacher had dragged him from the back of the classroom to the front of the classroom by the scruff of his neck."

Amanda said she understands why the school implements disciplinary measures but is furious they did not give her any details about the incident.

She said she later received a letter from the principal saying the matter had been "dealt with in accordance with the appropriate departmental procedures".

The letter advised any further requests for details would have to be made under a Freedom of Information request.

Earlier in February, a school in Melbourne came under fire after its principal was caught dragging a young student through a playground.

The video, which went viral on social media, shows Steve Warner, principal of Manor Lakes P-12 College in Wyndham Vale, southwest Melbourne, yanking the student along the ground by his arm.

Victoria Minister for Education James Merlino said in a statement that the footage is “appalling and concerning”.

He said: “Let me be very clear, I will not tolerate this kind of completely unacceptable behaviour in our schools.

“There will be an independent investigation into the staff member’s conduct and he has been immediately stood down while this takes place.”

The principal has since stood down over the incident.
