Mum's note to son outside flats where he was stabbed to death

A mum has left a heartbreaking note to her son outside the flats where he was stabbed to death on Monday evening.

Lee Andrews, 33, of no fixed abode, was killed after he was stabbed inside the YMCA building on North Road, St Helens.

Among the floral tributes left at the scene, Lee's "proud" mum left her own message.

Attached to a bunch of flowers, Lee's mum's tribute said: "I'm so proud of you son, love you always. All the love - Mum".

Another note left at the scene reads: "To Lee, what a guy. My heart goes out to you mate. Another one gone way too early. Till we meet again Lee."

Another reads: "Rest in peace young man. Took too young."

And a fourth from a family member said: "Uncle Lee, I'll forever miss you, I love you so much. Lots of love - family. Fly high."

One note, surrounded by candles, says: "To Lee, I still can't believe that you have gone. I've known you so long for many years and I'm still in shock. But I am always thinking of you and will always miss you. Fly high angel, Phoebe and the girls."

ECHO readers have since paid tribute and offered their deepest condolences to the family of Lee Andrews on social media.

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for YMCA St Helens said: "We can confirm that an incident took place last night which resulted in the fatal injury of an individual. Due to the nature of the incident and the ongoing police investigation, we are unable to comment further at present.

"Our thoughts are with the individual who has sadly lost their life, and their family at this tragic time."

Yesterday, the force confirmed Thomas Brown, 42, of North Road, St Helens, was charged with the murder of Mr Andrews.

In a statement, a Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a man who died following an incident in St Helens last night has been named as 33 year-old Lee Andrews.

"Mr Andrews, of no fixed abode, but from the St Helens area, was stabbed inside a property in North Road at around 10.50pm.

"He died in hospital a short time later. A post mortem will take place to confirm the cause of death."

Witnesses are being urged to come forward.

Detective Inspector Jenny Beck said: "The investigation is in the very early stages. We are carrying out a number of witness and CCTV enquiries to establish what has taken place."
