Mum's 'mind-blown' after discovering money-saving feature on her kettle

A mum has been left "mind-blown" after realising she'd not been making the most of her kettle - by ignoring a money-saving feature she could have been using all along.

Posting to TikTok as @buildabundle, a mum behind the preloved clothes shop of the same name explained her honest mistake.

"Who else has just discovered today that the numbers on a kettle don't tell you how many litres of water it holds..." she began.

"...It actually tells you how many cups of tea that amount of water will make! So you only boil the amount you need. Mind blown! Who else never knew this?! I'm 35."

The money-savvy parent also shared a video of her kettle in the clip - showing off the eight-number scale on the side. Amazed, some commenters could not believe the mum had missed the prompt before, but others confessed making the same discovery.

One shocked viewer questioned: "Do people not know this? No hate I just honestly thought everyone knew this!" But the mum replied: "I genuinely didn't." Someone else also revealed: "I didn't know so thank u."

Meanwhile, others pointed out various kettles use different measurements - perhaps explaining why some commenters were unaware. One such reply said: "Mine is litres. It says so."

But it's not the first - and probably not the last - time kitchen gadgets have caused confusion. Elsewhere, foodies were left gobsmacked after finally learning what the fourth side of a cheese grater is used for.

If you know your way around a box grater, you'll likely be familiar with most of its uses. But do you know all of its applications? According to Marthastewart.com, each side has a specific purpose.

The small shredding holes are used to finely grate food like cheese or chocolate. Then, the smallest, teeth-like side is perfect for creating fine strands of cheese to add to salads.

Finally, the wide slots should be used for slicing and shaving, and the largest shredding holes - those used most regularly - deal with semi-hard cheeses, carrots, and apples.
