Mum's list of 'guilty pleasure' names for babies leaves people in stitches

We all have names in our heads which we secretly adore, but would never in a million years even dream of calling our children.

From celeb baby names such as Apple, which seems pretty tame compared to the standards nowadays, to Saint, and even X Æ A-Xii, there are baby names the rich and famous seem to get away with and we may joke about, but wouldn’t actually name our kids.

Our names are an incredibly important part of our identity. They carry deep personal, cultural, familial, and historical connections, and they also give us a sense of who we are, and our ultimate place in the world.

A hilarious mum isn’t thinking that deeply about names, however, as she’s taken to Mumsnet to reveal her guilty pleasure baby names, and to ask other mums what theirs are too.

She posted: “What are your guilty pleasure you wouldn’t even bother suggesting names? Mine are:

Lavender

Bluebell

Sailor

Scout

Shiloh

Forrest

Ophelia

Olive

Penelope

River

Rusty

Navy

Sylvie

Sunday

Tuesday”

Not gonna lie, we think some of those names are seriously cute and not even that outlandish!

Some are definitely more bizarre than others though, and would need a seriously open-minded partner to even consider them.

Other mums-to-be were quick to hop on the thread and comment some of their ‘guilty pleasure’ baby names - some of which we’re not falling for…

One person said: “Hovis.” Hmm, we’re not so sure about that one if we’re honest.

Another mum commented: “Just before my son was born my hormones convinced me that Paddington would be the perfect name.

“I'm still fond of it but luckily for my darling son it was vetoed the second I said it!”

Another mum commented their list of baby names they could never use, but adore:

“Clarence

Roland

Walter

Kenneth

Lionel

Franklin

Nova

Lulu

Piper

Calliope

Cassandra

Melody

Fletcher

Spencer

Apollo

River

Forest

Skye

Clover

Flora”

Again, we think some of those are utterly adorable!

One mum saw the funny side of her ‘guilty pleasure’ name and wrote: One of my favourite names is Florian. But only if it's said in a French accent.

"My husband is scouse -can you imagine a little scouse Florian?!”

Another said: “Tallulah. Was desperate to use it but we definitely aren’t posh enough to carry it off!”

A rather rogue comment was: “Banana.” Not too sure how we feel about this fruity name.

Other mums were worried about potential nicknames, with one writing: “ I love Raphael but we have the most British sounding surname, it would sound ridiculous! And I hate Ralph or Ralphie so would insist on the full Raphael being used every time”

In all seriousness, we say name your child what you want - there’s no point in living with regrets.
