Mum's horror as café serves toddler 'babyccino' with TWO shots of coffee

A horrified mum nearly served her baby two shots of coffee after a barista mistakenly thought a ''babyccino' was the same as a normal cappuccino but smaller.

The parent was enjoying a visit to a local soft play centre with her tot when the mistake occurred.

Being a babyccino aficionado, the mum ordered the popular drink for her tot. Thankfully, she decided to take a drink before passing it to the youngster, who is just under 18 months old.

Sharing her shock in a post to Mumsnet, the parent said she wanted to warn families in case other baristas make the same mistake.

"If I had given my almost 18 month old a double shot of espresso I dread to think what would have happened!

"Will be tasting them from now on but just thought I'd put the word out there that babyccinos may contain coffee if the person making thinks it's literally a mini cappuccino," she wrote.

Explaining what happened, the mum said that the 'young' worker did not realise her error when questioned. "Asked the barista and she said yes there was two shots of coffee in there! She didn't seem to know a [babyccino] was just frothy milk."

She added: "This woman was very young and I've emailed the place to suggest the staff have more training."

In response, parents were quick to debate how well-known the drinks are.

"Babyccinos were available when my young adults were babies. Back then they charged 50p ! Can't believe that the worker added coffee," read one reply.

Another said: "Whoa, good catch. I'm very surprised that a soft play wouldn't know this." But a third said: "I thought a babyccino was just a tiny coffee."

Elsewhere, someone commented: I doubt the toddler would have drank it so it's fine. I can't really imagine anyone in a cafe putting coffee in them anyway, they've always been free anywhere I've been.

"Although my husband did actually think there was coffee in a babyccino."
