Mum's horror after finding car smashed up during Mischief Night

A mum-of-three condemned the thugs who smashed her car up in a frenzy of vandalism during Mischief Night.

Joanne Horgan took a video of the damage caused when yobs took a hammer to her silver VW Polo and smashed three of its windows, leaving the inside covered with shattered glass pieces.

It was discovered by her son in Sandhey Road, near Hoylake, Wirral, at around 10.30pm yesterday (Friday).

The car, an 02 reg VW Polo, was parked at the side of the road near her Meols home.

Joanne, 62, said: "I was enraged and upset. I had to go out in the wind and rain to try and brush up all the glass, and then make the car secure by putting flimsy bin bags over the windows.

"A lady across the road, who had gone away, also had her little car damaged in the same way.

"The whole of Hoylake was like a war zone last night, with people's cars being smashed up.

"Somebody said the feral rats were riding round on their bikes with a hammer and smashing people's windows in the process.

"I've got three boys and they would never have behaved like this, I knew exactly where they were."

Joanne said she had reported the incident to police.

The incident was one of a series of attacks on cars in the Hoylake area last night.

Posting on a local Facebook group, one woman said: "Just been to Hoylake, George Road, and my car and at least nine other have had the windows smashed in."

"Nothing taken, just wanton vandalism.

"Had to knock and tell a man in his 80s that his back window had been smashed in, he was devastated."
