Mum's heartbreaking tribute to her 'forever boy' after son's body recovered from river

Tributes have poured in for a teenage boy whose body was pulled from a river last night.

Named locally as Tyler Wilson, the 16-year-old has been described by friends as a "beautiful young soul".

Police were called to the River Calder in Castleford, West Yorkshire, in response to concerns for the safety of a male in the water just before 7pm on Wednesday.

There had been reports from the scene of someone in trouble in the water and onlookers 'screaming' for help.

Officers were joined at the river by other emergency service personnel and a body was recovered at around 8.30pm.

West Yorkshire Police said the boy's family have been informed.

"I am so sorry to all Tyler's family, he was the best. A decent, honest boy that made my daughter the happiest girl.

Another friend said: "Rip Tyler, you will be sadly missed by all that knew you. My heart goes out to all your family and friends.

"Such a beautiful young soul taken far too soon. If any of Tias friends needs someone to talk to only a message away. Fly high."

Another added: "Way too young to go. Thinking of your mum brother and sister. Sleep tight."

A police spokesperson said: "Police were called to the River Calder off Leeds Road, Castleford, at 6.58pm this evening (Wednesday, 24 May) to a report of a concern for safety for a male in the water.

"Emergency services attended at the scene and shortly before 8.30pm a body was recovered from the water. It is understood to be that of a 16-year-old boy.

"His family are aware and being supported by officers. We would ask that people are considerate of his family at this difficult time.

"Police are making enquiries into this incident and would ask that anyone who witnessed any part of what has taken place contact Wakefield District CID via 101 Live Chat or by calling 101, quoting log 1652 of 24/05."
