Mum's heartbreak as no-one attends 7-year-old son's birthday and pal throws invite away

A mum has been left heartbroken as nobody RSVP'd to her seven-year-old's birthday party invite. One cruel kid even threw his invite away in front of the boy, who has been described as 'joyful' to be around.

The plan was to do a bowling party with pizza, cake and arcade games but the mum is now on the lookout for new ideas as she realised nobody has confirmed they are going.

The mum, who remained anonymous, took to Reddit to explain that when her son was handing out invites in school one kid said no in front of him and another simply threw the invite away, leaving him upset.

In the post, she explained: "We have received no rsvp's. Well, that's not true - his best friend's mom [sic] said they can come but have to leave early because they bought tickets for a Christmas event that same day.

"When he was handing out invitations at school, one kid said no and another kid threw the invitation away."

The mum went onto explain she does not know what she will do and has even contemplated cancelling it but also wants to make the day more special for him.

She is also struggling to think how to talk to him about it.

"I'll have a talk with him explaining that, because the holidays are a busy time of year, it will be small. Because, as so many people said, some people don't RSVP or wait until the day of, I don't want to cancel it altogether," she stated.

"What I'm thinking we may do is keep the party as scheduled, but add onto it. There's been a lot of great ideas - go karts, aquarium, etc. We live in a pretty small town so there's lots to do if we're willing to drive an hour or two.

"But that's all definitely worth the drive to give him a good, memorable birthday!"

In response, many have been supportive of the mum and the son as one person wrote: "Yeah, just take him and his bestie out (earlier) for a killer day! With only two kids, you can go somewhere more expensive and more fun. A giant arcade? Theme park? Water park?"

While another person suggested: "This is a very tough time of year to plan a party. I’d buy him a gigantic present and take him somewhere with his best friend for fun."
