A mum was left stunned after a simple cleaning hack revealed just how filthy her washing machine was - despite her thinking it was clean.
Mum-of-two Jojo_con82 shared an instructional video on TikTok explaining how she discovered just how mucky her washing machine really was and the video has already racked up more than two million viewers.
In the video the mum uses dishwasher tablets to remove the dirt left behind.
She captioned the video: "Cleaning the washing machine. It looks clean, how wrong was I…
"I’ve lived in my flat for three years. This washing machine was here.
"I’ve cleaned it with the cleaners and also soda crystals once a month. I saw a video about using 2 dishwasher tablets to deep clean it.
"Thought I would give it a try. Wasn’t expecting much."
She throws two dishwasher tablets into the empty drum, shuts the door and selects the 'Cotton Standard 60C' cycle before turning it on.
The captions add: “How wrong was I…” before showing murky brown water to begin to gather in the drum, as she said: “This is only after 10 minutes… Yuk..”
Later on in the wash, the machine was shown to be mixing around a large amount of frothy, brown liquid as the mum said: “After one hour… I will be doing this once a month instead…”
TikTok users were left stunned at the results with some revealing they were “today years old” when they learnt that a washing machine needed to be cleaned.
One person shared an alternative hack, advising: “Four cups of white vinegar on a 60 or 90 wash. Sparkling clean and no damage to the washer.”
And another proved that not all homemade hacks are successful, admitting: “I put half a bottle of fairy in mine, when I came back from shopping I had bubbles coming out my chimney," along with face palm emojis.
