Mum's 'genius' water bottle hack keeps her son hydrated throughout day in UK heatwave

It can be hard to keep children hydrated during the UK heatwave, especially as sitting in the shade with a drink is much less fun than playing in the sun with their friends.

So many parents find themselves looking for ways to make drinking fun and interesting - and one mum reckons she's found the perfect trick.

Taking to TikTok to share her cunning plan, @jaymeelea96 explains how her freezer idea becomes a fun game for her son and ensures he reaches for his water bottle all day.

She instructs people to find a plastic water bottle with a lid and a straw, and to fill it with water about a third of the way.

You then get your little one to put it in the freezer lengthways and tell them they now have to wait for the change to happen.

When she goes back to the freezer after a few hours and takes the bottle out, with the water now frozen. The sideways angle means she still has room to add the squash.

The ice then slowly melts throughout the day, meaning her son has a constant supply of cold water - and he's excited about when there is more melted for him to drink.

She tells her TikTok followers: "It's just perfect for summer days and keeps him nice and cool."

Mums were really excited about the hack, with one saying she wishes she'd seen it sooner.

She wrote: "If only I saw this earlier! I couldn’t get my daughters lid off this morning", followed by a crying with laughter emoji.

Another praised the hack, writing: "Omg yes I used to the same trick for work…the drink stays cold all day!"

"I’ve used to do this at school ESPECIALLY if I had PE in the summer. Brilliant hack and doesn’t melt as fast as ice cubes do", one user gushed.

One woman, who had previously tried another method, wrote: "This is a great idea, there's enough ice and also you can actually drink the water straight away. When I was at school we froze the whole bottle and had to wait for some to melt."
