Mum's fury as school 'tells girls to hold in periods' as toilet breaks are 'banned' during class

A furious mum has claimed pupils at her daughter's school have been told to "hold in their periods" as bathroom breaks are "banned" during teaching time.

The concerned mum has also claimed that toilet doors at the school have been removed and says pupils need a doctor's note if they wish to be excused to use the toilet.

Speaking about events All Saints Academy in Wyke Regis, Weymouth the mum-of-two told The Sun her daughter says school "feels like prison".

She said: "I was horrified.

"My daughter said 'what about us girls when we have our period, if we have an accident and we need to get to the taps, not only have we got teachers walking past and students, but any visitors to the school'.

“She said 'we don’t feel comfortable going to the bathroom'. She said 'it’s not school anymore mum, it feels like prison'."

The mum claims pupils must provide a doctor's note if they want to use the toilet during lessons and says her daughter was told to "hold in" her period if she didn't have one.

However All Saints Academy say all toilet cubicles have full height doors and the only area that was visible through the main toilet door was the hand washing area.

Principal John Cornish said changes had been implemented to improve facilities.

He said that pupils are encouraged to visit the toilet during lunch and break times to get them to practice good comfort break habits.

He said those with medical conditions who have a 'toilet card' can go during lessons while those who are caught short may head to the bathrooms if "absolutely necessary".
