Mum's fury as man shouts sick racist remark from Brit movie at her and young daughter

A mum is upset and fuming after a man reportedly shouted a racist remark at her as she walked home with her five-year-old daughter.

Mandy Singh said that three male cyclists sped past her, pointed at her and her daughter and said 'look guys, two rubber dingy rapids!'.

It's a reference to the film Four Lions, which follows young Muslim men who hatch a plan to become suicide bombers.

Mandy took the comment as racist, BirminghamLive reports.

She was walking with her daughter on the way back from a garden centre in Albrighton, Shropshire, when the incident took place at around 1pm on Saturday, June 11.

Mandy has been left reeling but the mum has said that sadly, she knows that her daughter will be subjected to similar incidents in her life simply because of the colour of her skin.

The 37-year-old said: "We were coming back from the garden centre in Albrighton, we'd been to the soft play centre there. We were just walking past when three grown men on bikes rode past.

"One turned to the other and said 'look guys, two rubber dingy rapids!' to us. It's a reference to the film Four Lions.

"They were all white and looked to be in their late thirties. I just ignored them, I was with my daughter so didn't want to upset her.

"And you never know what someone might do. But if she was a few years older, she might have asked what they meant."

She added: "I know that she will face things like this in life but she shouldn't have to. It annoyed me because ok, it's from a film, but in front of my five-year-old daughter?

"He pointed at us as well. He must have known we'd hear it as he said it as he rode past us."

She has since reported the incident to West Mercia Police as a hate crime. Mandy says that she has lived in Albrighton for almost ten years and this is the first time she's been subjected to a racist remark from a stranger.

The mum-of-one added: "My husband suggested that I report it. I just wouldn't want it happening to someone else.

"I hope they can find them and let them know what they've said is wrong and upsetting."

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We can confirm that we have had a report of an alleged hate crime which happened in Newport Drive, Albrighton, at about 1pm on Saturday, June 11.

"A woman was walking along the road with her five-year-old child when three men passed them on bikes. One made a comment to the other two which the woman took to be a racist remark made to her and her child.

"The men are described as being white and in their thirties. Officers have made contact with the woman to discuss the matter."
