Mum's fury as cruel coronavirus panic buyers leave shop worker, 18, in tears

A furious mum has posted a picture of her teenage daughter after she endured a torrent of horrific abuse while working at a supermarket.

The 18-year-old was pictured crying after being the victim of foul-mouthed tirades by panic buyers.

The young woman, named Jordyn, had just finished a shift at Woolworths in Queensland, Australia, when the snap was taken, her mum said.

Debara Nydrle wrote on Facebook alongside the image: “Thank you to all the a**holes who think its okay to abuse Woolies staff to the point where you break them, daily, multiple times a day.”

She urged people to kind to supermarket workers who have to work during the pandemic, which has claimed 21 lives in Australia.

And Debara branded the threatening behaviour "un-Australian" in her angry post.

Instead of being abusive, she wrote, people should be more supportive of shop workers.

Debara said: “Perform a random act of kindness. Thank your supermarket worker, or give them a smile, take them flowers - you can even buy them in store.”

It comes a week after another Woolworths worker was seen breaking down in tears after being abused.

While strict lock-down measures are now in place in Australia, outbreaks of the disease have been detected in some communities, including Bondi, which made headlines in March when thousands of people were seen ignoring social distancing rules at its world-famous beach.

South Australia's Barossa Valley wine-region has closed schools and facilities this week due to a localised outbreak, while six baggage-handlers working at the state's Adelaide airport have also tested positive to Covid-19.

"Bondi is one of those places where we are seeing local transmission, and we have seen cases among backpackers in recent days," New South Wales Health director Jeremy McAnulty said in Sydney on Wednesday.
