Mum's emotional tribute to 'loving' son who died on train tracks

A bench will be placed in Derby Park to commemorate the life of James Myers.

James tragically lost his life in 2019 when he climbed onto a high voltage train network by Bedford Road in Bootle. James who was just 12 at the time of his death was survived by his mum, dad, and two brothers.

To commemorate his life a fundraising campaign was started in his memory to put a bench in Derby Park. Speaking to the ECHO his mum, Sharon said: "James was very lively and very dramatic he loved life, going out on his bike and playing with his friends."

"He had a very kind and loving side to him, he loved animals and couldn't watch a program where an animal would get hurt because he would be upset for weeks."

Sharon said she wanted the bench in Derby Park because she has found memories of James playing there, she said: "That's our local park so we spent lots of time there. I always remember sitting with James and our new puppy. Every time I walk past that spot I think of that day so I have asked if we can have the bench there."

Sharon said that she wants a place people can go to celebrate her son's life she said: "People pay their respects to James where he died but that is the worst place I could go. Now I will now have somewhere to be with him."

"One-day people will forget about James and if they sit on that bench and read the plaque they might remember him even if it's just for five minutes that means a lot to me. I would give anything to go back to the way things were the problems we used to have just don't' compare how we feel now."

The £600 needed to build the bench has now been raised and Sharon hopes that work will begin this year.
