Mum's concerns as mouse filmed running around school canteen

A mum shared her concerns after footage emerged of a mouse running through a school canteen.

The video, filmed by an anonymous student at King's Leadership Academy in Dingle Vale, shows pupils trying to catch the rodent as it runs between tables in the school's cafeteria.

The video also shows what appears to be a dead mouse outside the school's food hall.

Nicola Kelley, whose two children attend the school, said: "It has been going on since before half term, when my kids were telling me about it, I didn't believe it at first until I saw some of the videos.

"I thought that they would have fixed the problem over the school break, but obviously they haven't.

"I got in contact with them to tell them my concerns, and they came back to say that they saw two mice before the break, and that they thought the students were being dramatic, and that it wasn't as bad as they were making out."

While the footage, filmed on 1 March, shows a single rodent there were said to be "multiple" mice running around.

Nicola, 39, continued: "My daughter said that she saw at least five mice in the hall which is just outside the canteen yesterday [March 7], I have had to start making them packed lunches, I don't want them eating from in there.

"I ended chemo in November and finished radiotherapy in January, I am terrified about my kids bringing any diseases home that these pests could carry, I don't want to catch anything."

A spokesperson for the King’s Leadership Academy Liverpool said: "There was an incident last week where a mouse was seen within the canteen and our estate management team dealt with it immediately and the mouse was caught."

"Covid protocols requiring us to keep doors and windows open for ventilation presents challenges, particularly during the winter months, to stop incidents like this from happening."

It has also come to the attention of the ECHO that two mice were also spotted in the school yesterday March 7.

They aim to deal with your request within five working days, or 24 hours for rats inside a property (excluding loft).
