Mum's clever pumpkin carving hack which saves the mess and hassle of Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner, and you may be starting to think about getting your decorations ready to transform your home for the spooky season. First on the list should always be a pumpkin, the quintessential item to adorn your house this All Hallows’ Eve.

You can pick your pumpkin from many sites around Greater Manchester, but before it is ready to light the way for those trick-or-treaters, it must be transformed into a spooky face with a little carving. Pumpkin carving can be messy, though, and not always an easy task.

Although the kids will likely want to get stuck in themselves, it may not be the best idea to let them use a sharp knife to carve a face into their jack-o’-lanterns. With this in mind, a TikTok user has shared a video showing a simple and clever Halloween hack which cuts out the mess and hassle of pumpkin carving in just a few ingenious steps.

In the video, The Hands-On Family prepare their pumpkin by cutting around the stem and removing its top to open it up. Next, they recommend using an electric whisk to loosen the stringy innards and scoop out the messy pulp and seeds.

Next, they use different shaped cookie cutters to make the eyes and mouth of the pumpkin, with the boy in the video opting for star-shaped eyes and a bat-shaped mouth. If the cutter does not easily break through the pumpkin skin, a hammer or other household object can be used to knock it further in with a little force before being easily removed.

This simple and clever hack is far neater than the traditional ways and will ensure your pumpkin sets you apart from the neighbours. It is also safer for those carving with children, as it removes the need for letting your littles ones use a sharp knife to carve their eerie pumpkin art.
