Mum's clever Ikea trick to stop children waking up too early

Since the clocks went forward in March , the mornings have steadily started getting lighter.

And while that is good news for some, it's not ideal for parents of toddlers.

Once the light starts streaming through the curtains, little ones are ready to get up – even if it's 5am.

So one mum decided to get creative to help her three-year-old daughter understand when it's not quite time to get up yet.

Megan Gough bought a cheap white clock from Ikea - and coloured in different sections, Manchester Evening News explain.

The red section is the time before 6.30am and it means back to bed.

The yellow section marks the time between 6.30 to 7am and means she can play quietly in her room and green, from 7am, is good to go.

The clever creation was shared in a mums Facebook group.

Megan said: "If anyone's going to be struggling with light mornings. This was a plain clock from Ikea, my three-year-old now knows when to get up. Green is good to go."

She said: "So she gets up when the glittery hand is in green, if she's awake in yellow, she can play quietly in her room but not in my room and red is back to bed.

"She is really quite good, just the odd problem like waking me up at 1.30am because 'I have no socks on'. Ha! But she does look for daylight to get up and I anticipate a problem with summer coming."
